Swick, Russell R., of Redondo Beach, passed away, January 18, 2001 in Torrance California. Russell was born June 1, 1913 in Lyons Nebraska. He came to Los Angeles California in 1941 working for the Pacific Electric Railroad. He retired 6 years later buying a jewelry business. In 1950 he Moved his wife and four children to Redondo Beach where he purchased his first home. While in Redondo Beach he worked first as a carpenter and then went on to become a state licensed contractor. After 14 years he went to work for the city of Redondo as a building inspector and was appointed to the Housing Board of Appeals. Russell was a lover of horses and joined the Redondo Beach posse riding in the local parades. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias, Eagles, and Optimist International. He was supportive of high school church athletes participating in soft ball and basketball. He was an avid bowler joining an all church South Bay bowling league. Left to mourn his passing are his devoted wife, Josephine Swick, his children; daughter, Beverly (Mrs. Howard) McNulty of Orange, CA, and sons; Ken (Diane) Swick of Orange, CA, Robert Swick of Riverside, CA and Ron (Francie) Swick of Redondo Beach, CA. Other survivors include his sister, Joyce (Mrs. Herb) Klement of Los Angeles and his brothers, Glen (Dorothy) Swick of Bloomington, CA. and Pete (Opal) Swick of Hemet, CA. He is the blessed grandfather of 31, great grandfather of 33 and great, great grandfather of two. Visitation will be at RICE MORTUARY, 5310 Torrance Blvd., TOrrance, CA. 90503 on Tuesday, January 23, 2001 from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Services at the Graveside will be on Wednesday, January 24, 2001 at 1:30PM at Pacific Crest Cemetery, (182nd St. and Inglewood Avenue, in Redondo Beach). Memorial services will be the same day at 3:00PM at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church (Avenue D and
Pacific Coast Hwy., Redondo Beach).
