Matthiesen, Jerry Andrew
Born in Seattle, Washington in 1937 to Andrew and Betty Matthiesen, passed away suddenly from a stroke on September 14, 2006 while visiting his family in Redondo Beach, California. He was surrounded by his wife, Carol (Bousquet) Matthiesen and his 4 daughters, Desiree, Michon, Traci, and Nicole; his son-in-law, Steve Leonard and his long-time friend, Jim Huber. He is survived by 3 grandchildren: Dominique and Erin Leonard and Cooper Morse. He was preceded in death by his sister, Karleen Ledum Bonus.
Jerry graduated from the University of Washington and received a Bachelors degree in Nursing in 1960. He then joined the United States Army where he attended Anesthesia school. He served a tour in Vietnam, was a proud member of the Delta Force and retired from the military after 20 years of service. He continued his career as a Nurse Anesthetist in Payson, Utah for 20 more years before retiring to the sun and golf courses of Goodyear, Arizona. He was an awesome husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a sports enthusiast and a worthy competitor on the golf course, tennis court and softball field.
There will be a Memorial Service at American Martyr's Catholic Church in Manhattan Beach, California on Friday, September 22nd at 2:00 pm with a reception immediately following at the Holy Family Parish House.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Save the Children Foundation.
