Dorothea E. Ruckdaschel, born August 13, 1916 in the small town of Hutchinson, Minnesota, passed away on February 11, 2010 at the age of 93. She was the 9th of 12 children to German immigrant parents, Martha Dobberstein and Albert Roepke. She was a courageous woman who left her large family in Minnesota to seek new beginnings in California in 1940. She settled for a few years in Glendale with her now deceased husband, Curtis E. Ruckdaschel, until they moved to their first home in Redondo Beach. It was in Redondo where they had their one and only son, Guy Curtis, who they adored and raised amidst the beauty of the sun, sea, and surf. They later moved to the hills and canyons of nearby Rancho Palos Verdes, where they eventually stayed for over 40 years. Dorothea is survived by her son, Guy Curtis, daughter-in-law, Sandra, and grandson, Marc. She was the last of the 12 children to leave this earth but was blessed with many nieces and nephews. She led a good life and gave back to the community. She donated to several causes and volunteered at Torrance Memorial Medical Center for over 30 years. A true minimalist, she left this world the same way she started,....with a clean slate. She will truly be missed.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Torrance Memorial Healthcare Foundation 3330 Lomita Blvd West Tower Torrance CA, 90505. In the name of Dorathea Ruckdaschel.
