Frequently Asked Questions
about Pre-planning

How Will Pre-Planning Benefit My Family?
This Advance Plan removes the decision making burden from survivors by making personal choices well in advance of need. They will not have to pay for your funeral expenses at the time of your death when you’ve pre-selected, pre-signed, and pre-paid for your funeral arrangements.

What About Future Costs Increasing?
The Plan makes sure that the costs of your "Goods and Services" are guaranteed not to increase for you. The mortuary will receive the current day cost of funeral expenses from Great Western Advance Funeral Planning Life Insurance. Any growth that exceeds the current day expense is made payable to your family or your estate.

What If I Don't Die At Home?
If your Plan exceeds $2,000.00 and you die 250 miles or more away from home, Great Western Insurance Company will provide an additional benefit of $500.00 to assist with other needs. In addition, there is another low cost, worldwide travel plan available.

What If I Move Away From This Area?
The plan is transferable because the funds are secured for you in Great Western Insurance Company.

What if I Want To Make Changes In The Future?
Your Advance Funeral Plan is a living document. You can make changes at any time.

How Much Interest on the Payment Plans?
There is no interest on this pre-paid funeral plan. If a person wishes to stay on a payment plan for more than two years, insurance fees will be paid. However, if you choose to pay your plan off at any time during the first year, you will pay $100 or 3% of the total face amount, whichever is greater; or if you choose to pay your plan off in the second year you will pay $200 or 6% of the total face amount, whichever is greater. For additional information, please call (800) 621-5688 for more options or if you have any questions.

What If I Die Before the Payments Are Completed?
If you answer “NO” to both health questions, your plan is paid off at the time of your death. If you answer “YES” to any of the health questions, you will receive partial coverage as outlined on the application. If death is caused by an accident, 100% of your pre-funded funeral plan is paid for, regardless of the original answer to the health questions.

How Will This Affect My Estate?
The Plan is generally made irrevocable to protect you from government attachment. SSI cannot consider this an asset and there is no luxury or estate tax on the plan.

What If the Mortuary Goes Out Of Business?
Your Plan is protected by Great Western Insurance Company and can be transferred to a place of your choice. Furthermore, another mortuary in the area would uphold the agreement that you made with the mortuary that went out of business.
